scents I was out shopping a few weeks ago at one of our local department stores. I just needed to pick up a few household necessities when I happened to find myself standing in front of a section of items that caught my eye. What was so interesting? A slew of spray cans, gels, beads, waxy things and diffusers to make our homes, or in particular our bathrooms, smell good. I stood there looking at over 200 items. I’ll admit I have candles burning in my home very often. I enjoy the glow of the candles and remember someone once said that every woman looks beautiful in candle glow.

So, yes I burn candles often. I’ll even buy scented candles, but the array of cans, jars and boxes before me really made me take a closer look. I pulled out a pen and scrap a paper from my bag and started to catalog. A sales person walked by and gave me a very curious look.

BarbBefore me on these four shelves were spray cans, spray bottles, plug-in things, warmers (whatever they are) atomizers (again, what the heck is that?) waxy coneshaped things, sensor spritzer things and little cans that looked like cat food to me.

There were scented flameless candles and pots of air freshener pearls. Another type was a large group of sticks, actually they are reed diffusers, which should be placed in some kind of oil to freshen the room. So once you pick out the shape, size and container, you now have to choose a scent. Reading the various aromas I could have permeating my bathroom was overwhelming. The same store clerk that had spotted me previously, now had a very concerned look on her face. I smiled at her, but she wasn’t falling for it.

The choices are utterly endless. First, decide if you’d like your bathroom to smell like flowers; now imagine any flower on the face of the earth, and even some not found on earth, and the scent is available.

If you’d prefer a fruity aroma in your bathroom then you’re in for a big treat because there are scents such as Fruity Explosion, Juicy Peach, Fresh Berries, Apple & Spice Delight and Sparkling Citrus. I found myself picking up Moonlit Walk – but unfortunately I couldn’t smell it through the packaging, so I still wonder what Moonlit Walk would smell like. How about Meadows & Rain or perhaps Fresh Mountain Morning? I was intrigued by Angel Whisper and Angel Orchid. Are either of those scents choices you’d like in your bathroom? How about Fresh Water? I can’t begin to imagine what fresh water smells like!

If vanilla is your thing you could go for French Vanilla, Holiday Vanilla, Rose Vanilla or Simply Vanilla. No thanks, I’m not a vanilla fan to begin with. There are several “Exotic” scents; how does Lotus Bamboo sound? Hawaiian Breeze, Tropical Mist or Pina Colada perhaps? The only Pina Colada I want is in a glass, thank you very much.

One gizmo had me fascinated. It’s a motion sensor spritzer. Supposedly every time the gizmo senses movement it sprays a wonderful scent in your room. Just think of the hours of fun your kids could have with that!

By this time I was totally confused on what I should buy, I just couldn’t decide, and besides I now had a headache from smelling so many things. The pesky store clerk was now convinced that I was either going to steal something or I was crazy, so it was time to move away from the bathroom aromas. I paused for a moment and then grabbed a roll of paper towels. Too many choices, too many decisions, so maybe I’ll leave my bathroom just the way it is.
