Toni's Blog

I'm an oddity.  I'm aware of this and have been for some time.  I've long ago accepted the digs, both innocent and no so innocent, I hear from friends, family and small children.  So to add to that, I must admit something to you all.  I'm obsessed with the Olympic games.

Yes, yes I know.  What's so interesting with the Olympics?  Why do I sit in front of the television for two weeks, watching each of the competitions, cursing Bob Costas and the evil Matt Lauer because they won't shut their traps?  Well, I can't answer that.

I can tell you that I was this close to making an Olympic-themed dinner the night of the opening ceremony.  All I could think of was poutine, and that didn't seem like enough for dinner.  I researched in on the Internet, but all I found were recipes for seafood, and I only like my seafood out of a can with a bespectacled blue-fin gracing the label.

Derik and I did watch the opening ceremonies.  And each night, we communicate our feelings about the contests through facebook chat; he downstairs on the home computer, and me upstairs on my laptop.  We like to compare notes on performances, even though we have no experience in any of the sports we watch.  In fact, I think I've only put on ice skates once in my life, but boy do I like to critique skating along with Scott Hamilton.

So add Olympic fever to my oddness quotient, I'm talking to you, Vanessa Burger Pon.  What the heck, I was on a downhill slide anyway.
